East Village Hats—Boutique Tête-à-Tête Fedora, straw, urban turban, wide brim—name something to put atop your head and East Village Hats can make it. The hat shop, located at 80 East 7th Street in the East Village, specializes in handmade hats of all kinds. East Village Hats has a team of dedicated and expert milliners who work tirelessly to create unique hats using traditional tools and techniques, including a sewing machine dates back to the Industrial Revolution. The shop has remained locally owned since its opening day in 1998. Its founder, Barbara Feinman, has since passed the hat to her successor, Julia Knox, but you can still find Ms. Feinman in the workroom designing hats. If you’re of a fascinator mind, you also can take millinery lessons at one of the East Village Hats workshops, for hatters of all levels. East Village Hats is easily accessible via the 6 Train to the Astor Place station or via the M15 bus on First Avenue to St Marks Place. http://eastvillagehats.nyc/
